After waiting 45 years for my Prince Charming, I started planning my Japanese
inspired wedding. From gown, to my invitations, I wanted everything to have a
touch of my heritage. My mother, born and raised in Japan, she made by hand
is the traditional ceremonial wedding Kimono Gown. Not only did she make the
Kimono, but the inner Kimono and the Obi as well. Even the Japanese shoes,
that were hers, she covered them in the same material as she used for the
outer Kimono. The favors for my guests consist of 3 things. A porcelain
Japanese Soup Spoon with a chocolate covered strawberry placed on the spoon.
Origami Cranes placed on each plate, as cranes represents "Good Fortune".
Finally,a Japanese Hand Drum. I thought this would be unique to use to
signify a"kiss" instead of traditionally tapping your spoon on your drinking
glass. Also, the word "kiss" will be printed in English on one side of the
drum and in Japanese on the other side. The table centerpieces are made of
white & red Cherry Blossoms set in tall and slender vases. I am adding a
couple of little party lights to each centerpiece to create a romantic
atmosphere. I am designing my own invitations. I am adding patterned Origami
paper to my invites to give it an Asian flare, yet still be elegant and
simple. Thepaper will be placed around the center of the invitation to make
it have anObi appearance. I have designed the programs as well and they will
be in the shape of a fan with ribbon hanging from the bottom. Using both sides
of the fan I will show all information about the ceremony and names of the
wedding party. I am very proud of my Japanese heritage. My dreams of an Asian
theme wedding are coming true.

What a wonderful thing to be able to incorporate your family heritage into your wedding...and to have your mother be able to hand make your ceremonial gown?! How truly special is that!!! Sounds like it's going to be a beautiful wedding....you waited 45 years for perfection!!

Sounds amazing! A great idea to let your guests in on your "cultural heritage". And hand-made japanese items from your mother is a very special touch. Love it!
